Most electric lawn mowers that you purchase from the store (or from a site like Amazon) will come with a warranty. If there’s something wrong with your mower and you have a warranty, it’s probably best to get in contact with the seller of the item and request a replacement or repair.

If you have an active service plan on your mower, all you need to do is contact the company. They should direct you to a local shop that’s capable of fixing up your machine and reimburse you for the bill.

Of course, there are still many ways to fix the most common problems with your non-gas mower yourself. Just keep in mind that any tampering or self-repair of your product may very well void the warranty that’s covering the machine. It might be best only to try to fix your non-gas lawn mower if the warranty has expired.

Clogged Vents

This is probably the most common issue that arises with electric lawn mowers. To fix your mower, you need to remove the cover and clean it by hand – just make sure to get all the gunk that’s accumulated! If you can’t remove the cover, you can also use compressed air to blow out the vents.

Clogged vents stop the entire machine from working. Air can’t reach the mower’s engine without the vents, which causes your machine’s engine to overheat and even blow out!

Remember that some extension cords can only transfer voltage so far. It’s important that you buy the type of cord that the machine’s manufacturer suggests. Failure to use the right cord can result in your product working incorrectly. Your electric mower might shut off abruptly or fail to start. There’s also the chance that it will simply lose its effectiveness when cutting. Damage to a cord’s insulating lining can also cause the extension cord to lose some of its effectiveness.

Remember, if your cord has been sitting for a long time and is beginning to decompose, make sure it’s not too frayed or damaged to carry power correctly. Sometimes it’s not even your lawn mower causing you problems, but the cord you’re using to power it.

Battery

For battery powered mowers, it’s important not only to remember to keep your battery charged, but also to keep the connection between the battery and engine clean. If your electric mower’s engine isn’t working at all, you might want to make sure that the outlet connecting the lawn tractor battery to the engine isn’t grimy. Cleaning all the dirt and grime out might very well bring your mower straight back to life.

Conclusion

Most mowers come with a warranty, but if yours has expired or you bought your electric mower secondhand, then you might have to do a bit of tinkering yourself. These were some of the most common fixes for cordless and corded electric mowers. We hope we helped you learn how to fix your electric lawn mower with this article.
