You may not realize it, but the battery of your new cordless drill is the most important thing you own. You should watch it carefully to make sure that you’re always taking good care of it. The battery of your drill powers the entire machine, so you should take great measures to make sure you’re always treating it will and guarding it against improper storage or use. There are a lot of simple things you can do to take care of your battery. By implementing them into your daily routine, you can ensure that you’re able to reach the full potential of your battery’s life – which should be about 3 to 5 years.

Battery Lifespan

One of the most important things you need to do to make sure your battery lives up to its full lifespan is store your equipment in a cool and dry environment. Doing this will help to ensure that it won’t be damaged by overheating or moisture and can even add a year to the lifespan of your device. You can accomplish this by simply finding a drawer in your workshop or garage to store the tool in. Or, if you don’t have any empty spaces to put your device in, you can find a small box – or the box your device came in, to store your tools.

Analyzing Battery Life

Another thing you can do to help preserve your battery life is to make sure that you don’t ever just throw or toss the device into your tool box, car, or anything else. Doing this puts your battery at risk of bumping into other tools that could damage – or even ruin – your battery. And buying a new cordless drill battery is not cheap. Standard batteries tend to cost about $40 to replace, but if you bought a device with a much more involved design you could be looking at a lot more money.

Another good way to protect your battery is to make sure it is always fully charged before you start using it again. Doing this will help to extend the lifespan of your battery because it helps to make sure that your battery can always work at it’s peak performance. You shouldn’t make a habit of letting the battery drain until it’s completely out of power. This is a common misconception, but it is actually better for your battery to always be fully charged before you use it.

Let the Battery Run Out

However, this doesn’t mean that you should never let your battery run out. Letting it hit rock bottom every two months should help to keep it in prime working condition – just try not to let it happen any more often than that. A good way to accomplish this is to invest in two batteries. That way, you never have to let your battery run until it is completely empty, and you also won’t have to worry about waiting around for your battery to hit a complete charge when you should be focusing on work.

3-5 Years Drill Life

These are just a few precautions we recommend that you take to make sure that you’re able to get the full 3-5 years of use out of your batteries – and maybe longer with extra good care. You’ll be able to work quickly and efficiently without any problems from your tools and focus on the job at hand without having to pause to take care of issues that could have easily been avoided.
